Reliure originale - Demi-maroquin. / Original, very decorative, early 19th century binding with gilt lettering and ornament on spine. Tres bon exemplaire / Very good condition with only minor signs of external wear. Charles Alexandre de Calonne (20 January 1734 – 30 October 1802), titled Count of Hannonville in 1759, was a French statesman, best known for his involvement in the French Revolution. Realizing that the Parlement of Paris would never agree to reform, Calonne handpicked an Assembly of Notables in 1787 to approve new taxes. When they refused, Calonne's reputation plummeted and he was forced to leave the country. (Wikipedia), 1780, 0, Hard Cover. Good. London. H. M. Brackeridge, um afamado escritor, autor do Views of Louisiana (Pittsburgh, 1814), Journal of a Voyage up the River Missouri (Baltimore, 1816), e History of the late war between the U.S. and Great Britain (Baltimore, 1817, com edições posteriores, e uma tradução francesa, de 1820), foi escolhido como secretário da missão. Humboldt afirma que este livro contém extraordinária quantidade de informação, sendo repleto de pontos de vista filosóficos.' 2 volumes of 22x14.5 cm. xviii, [ii], 331, 40 and [iv], 317 p. Contemporary full calf binding, with gilt iron tools and labels on the spines, beautiful marbled endpapers and red sprinkled edges. Boards with walnut root decoration. Copy in excellent condition with luxury binding. Borba de Moraes only describes the Baltimore edition published in the same year. During the years of this trip there was an ongoing the conflict between Portugal and Argentina for the possession of the current territory of Uruguay, a conflict that aroused the interest of North America whose presidents, since independence, began to defend a political thesis that would tend, in the medium term, to declare that North America did not admit interference from European powers throughout America, and subsequently led to the formulation of the Monroe Doctrine, on the 2nd December 1823, creating the foundations of American isolationism and the profound influence of North America throughout the American continent. In 1816, King João VI continuing Portugal´s actions to extend the borders of Brazil to the Rio da Prata, had sent to the south the "Division of Royal Volunteers" commanded by General Carlos Frederico Lécor, who managed to take Maldonado and occupy Montevideo in 1817. In the years 1817 and 1818 the Portuguese were confronted with attacks by guerrillas who they could only win in 1820, at the Battle of Taquarembó, on January 22 of that year, and which led to the annexation of the territory by the United Kingdom of Portugal and Brazil. In 1828, with Brazil already independent of Portugal, and after a war with Argentina, the disputed territory would become independent from Argentina, with the new country - Uruguay, held by the cities and fortresses built by the Portuguese, such as the Colony of the Sacrament. Even today the naturals of this "colony" have the right to Portuguese citizenship. Henry Marie Brackenridge (May 11, 1786 January 18, 1871) was an American writer, lawyer, judge, superintendent, and congressman from the state of Pennsylvania. Borba de Morais vol 1, 117. 'In order to obtain reliable information on the political and economic situation of the provinces of the Rio da Prata, the U.S. government decided to send a commission to investigate the matter. H.M. Brackeridge, a famous writer, author of views of Louisiana (Pittsburgh, 1814), Journal of a Voyage up the River Missouri (Baltimore, 1816), and History of the late war between the U.S. and Great Britain (Baltimore, 1817, with later editions, and a French translation, from 1820), was chosen as secretary of the mission. The commission set sail on the frigate Congress in Norfolk, towards Rio de Janeiro, where it arrived in December 1817 and where it remained until the beginning of February of the following year. Brackenridge provides an enthusiastic description of Rio, studies manners and customs, provides statistics and comments on the political situation. São Paulo, Santa Catariana and Rio Grande do Sul are described in a separate chapter. The work provides, in more than a hundred pages, important and accurate details about the country. The rest of the book contains a treatise on the province of Rio da Prata. Humboldt states that this book contains "an extraordinary amount of information, full of philosophical views." Reliure originale - Demi-maroquin. Good. London. Printed for T. and J. In 1828, with Brazil already independent of Portugal, and after a war with Argentina, the disputed territory would become independent from Argentina, with the new country - Uruguay, held by the cities and fortresses built by the Portuguese, such as the Colony of the Sacrament. Even today the naturals of this 'colony' have the right to Portuguese citizenship. Henry Marie Brackenridge (May 11, 1786 ? January 18, 1871) was an American writer, lawyer, judge, superintendent, and congressman from the state of Pennsylvania. Borba de Morais vol 1, 117. "In order to obtain reliable information on the political and economic situation of the provinces of the Rio da Prata, the U.S. government decided to send a commission to investigate the matter. H.M.
