In the exhaust of vacuum method, the removal of vitiated air, thus causing an inflow of fresh air, has been more or less in use; but the results obtained have not been such as to entitle the method to the claims of perfect ventilation, and for this reason: it has been found, practically, when the fresh-air supply is to be heated by passing through steam coils or over hot radiating services, that the air will not take this course; much of it will come from other sources, through cracks around windows and doors, from the halls, basements and closets, thus causing draughts and often bringing in impurities. The impossibility to secure equality in the movement of the air in the different rooms becomes apparent, and causes variations in the circulation and temperature of the rooms.
