Othoh Resolutions of attempting to seize the Empire, I should say, his Thoughts about ir (for those, ''tis plain, our Author knew perfectly well) are wise and politic, and proper in his Circumstances, and had the Cause he was ingaged in been righteous, great and glorious1. He reasons like the deepest Politician, and resolves with a Greatness of Soul becoming Alexander or Caesar, Mortem omnibus ex natura oqualem, oblivione apud pojieros vel gloria distingui: Thus the gallant Sarpedon, in Homer. Hist. 1, 49. 1 Ibid. x. 32, 33, 34. Ibid. I. 21. K Since Since Agey Disease, or some less noble End, Tho'' not less certain, doth our Days attend: Since ''tis decreed, and to this Period lead A thousand Ways, the noblest Path we''11 tread; And bravely on, till they, or we, or all, A common Sacrifice to Honour fall.
