Not illustrated.1795 Excerpt: ... of their curative effects in some very obstinate chronic cases. The lumbago of John Turner was strongly marked, and was very much relieved by the warm bath. It must be observed, however, that the patient had five doses of the tincture of guaiacum, administered partly preceding, and partly within the period of the use of the baths; but both the operative and curative effects of the tincture were much inferiour to those of the baths. 'CASE VII. Henry Holland, of Stoke, aged fourteen, an in-patient, moderately relieved of a sciatica, of eleven weeks continuance, by the use of three warm baths; which proved copiously sudorific each time. CASE VIII. Samuel Lear, of Stafford, aged sixty, an in-patient, moderately relieved of a sciatica of three months continuance, by the use of 3 single warm bath j which proved copiously sudorific sudorific for a considerable part of the night. CASE IX. William Cresvvell, of Brewood, aged sixty-one, an in-patient, moderately relieved of rheumatic pains, of six weeks continuance, by the use of the warm bath five times in sixteen days, which always operated as a powerful sudorific. CASE X. Ann Sambrook, of Wolverhampton, aged seventeen, an in-patient, moderately relieved of rheumatic pains of three months continuance, by the use of the warm bath twice in three days j which operated as a powerful sudorific. OBSERVATIONS. The case of Henry Holland was very distinctly marked, and extremely obstinate, and the pain was very acute. He was bled, and had a blistering plaister applied, but was a xvery I very little relieved by either, though the latter produced a considerable discharge.
