351 Seiten, A actividade moageira assumiu, no distrito de Aveiro, um papel primordial como antecedente da própria actividade industrial, mas também como importante repositório de técnicas e saberes tradicionais. Além disso, a sua importância ao nível sociológico e cultural, marcaram para sempre inúmeras gerações, sendo que hoje em dia um moinho ainda fascina e atrai quem tem o privilégio de o ver a funcionar e ouvir as histórias e as lendas dos antigos moleiros. Com este trabalho pretende-se dar a conhecer melhor este valioso património, a grande maioria dele desconhecido ou esquecido, cuja actividade associada sempre teve uma grande importância na economia e na vida das populações. Nesse sentido, o autor percorreu todos os 19 concelhos do distrito de Aveiro, recolheu testemunhos de centenas de pessoas e compilou documentação, alguma dela inédita, que procura espelhar o passado, retratar o presente e perspectivar o futuro no que diz respeito a este valioso património. District of Aveiro is situated at northwest of Portugal. This is a very diverse region in geographical, socio-economic and even cultural terms, which includes a large coastline and an interior with several mountains. The aim of this book is to show all main traditional milling systems that exist in this region: quern stones, horse mills, horizontal waterwheel mills, vertical waterwheel mills, tide mills, several types of windmills, which includes tower windmills. According the author, district of Aveiro occupies a relevant place at the national level where the importance of molinological patrimony is concerned. From the quality, quantity or diversity point of view, this region is an excellent case study of and an example for consideration when we study the topic of Molinology in Portugal. The methodology used in this project permitted the gathering of information in the field, being in contact with the persons, delving into the memories of the people that were or still are linked to this activity. A search of the last mills that were still grinding grain, of the evidence of mill systems that have been out of use for some time, of rare and unique mills. As an example, regarding quern stones was possible to find and document some types with unique characteristics at the regional and even national levels, beyond the fact of presumably being one of a kind piece. A chapter is also dedicated to the millwrights, describing local technological solutions and showing technical schemes of different type of mills. With this work, the author want to make public the quantity and quality of this cultural and economical activity at this region, as also to apply for the future preservation of this legacy., Technology & Engineering, Armando Carvalho Ferreira<
