This book is intended for two audiences: for those who want to understand the basic ideas and story of Jainism and also for those who seek ethical principles that may help society meet current challenges. The book begins with Professor Parikh's own search for meaning, starting from a career as a scientist where religion and related philosophy were seen as somewhat secondary pursuits. The struggle to understand the many problems of the 20th century led the author to rediscover for himself key Jain teachings. He found that the logic of the Jain worldview, and its doctrines would resonate well with the rational mindset of the modern generations, and would, thereby assist them in their struggle to resolve many issues currently facing our planet.
