In spite of being a dedicated conservationist of these wildlife treasures, he makes us well aware of the problems the people who live in areas surrounding the parks, where animals roam freely and are protected. There are many deaths each year by snakes, elephants, hippos, buffalo, lions, leopards, some of the large primates, and a few by rhinos. And even more endangered are the crops on which the surrounding native villages depend, but which the animal forage, trample, or ruin. The book brings out many facts that must be faced about people and animals safely co-habiting, hunters and poachers who wound the animals being the cause of many dangers.
