The compilers, while endeavouring to include all that necessary and useful information which the housewife will require, have yet been limited to the scope of a single volume, so that the reader must bear in mind that only such information has been included as is likely to be required in the management of the average household. Each subject, however, has been dealt with in a manner that will enable the reader to turn to the worb for effective assistance in any ordinary domestic activity or where difficulty or emergency arises. The alphabetical arrangement of the subject-matter will be found particularly simple and attractive, eliminating as it does the necessity for a separate indei or the classification of the subjects dealt with under separate sections. Y HOUSEHOLD AARONS BEARD. Popular name for St. Johns W, ort, a hardy, attractive plant with yellaw flowers, growing freely in sandy soil, spitabie for rock gardens or for bordering on slopes. The reptat variety flowers in July and is of trailing habit easily cultivated and full flowered. They are P peremid and increased by division. AARONS ROD. p hardy biennial, blooms second year, with yellow flowers of varying shades. Gardeners know it as the yellow variety of the Verbascum or Mullein. It is tall, 3 to 5 feet, will flower all the summer, grow in any soil. Sow seed in boxes covered with glass till second leaf shows. Do as well in herbaceous border. The abdomen, or lower half of the pody, is where the stomach, liver, kidneys, bladder and other organs are situated, and ailments affecting these parts are considered under their respective headings. ABERNEZHY BISCUITS, PLAIN. -. Named after the famous doctor, and supposed to be from his recipe, these are wholesome for any on a strictly plain diet. Take I lb. flour not self-raising. I egg and 2 tablespoonfuls sugar, with a lb. butter and very little milk 2 dessertspoonfuls. Make a stiff paste by rubbin the egg and butter into the flour, adding the sugar.
