Scorpion: June 21, 1775 September 18, 1775 The journal here printed is of interest to South Carolinians because the Scorpion brought Lord William Campbell to South Carolina in 1775, and almost immediately became involved in the proceedings which preceded the breaking out of hostilities between Great Britain and the American provinces. The South-Carolina Gazette; And Country Jotmal for May 30, 1775, announced: On Friday last arrived here the Brig Rebecca, Capt. Sanders, who informs us, the Scorpion Man of War was on the 23d. of last Month at Madeira, on board of which, according to the latest advices. Lord William Campbell was to embark for this Province, so that his arrival may be hourly expected. The same paper for Tuesday, June 20, 1775, published the following: On Saturday evening last his excellency the Right Hon. Lord William Campbell, Gov. c.of this Province, with his Lady and family arrived in the Scorpion Man of War from England.
