Edward Verrall Lucas (1868-1938) was a versatile and popular English writer of nearly 100 books. His style has great facility, and is generally found insipid by contemporary readers; some of his cricket writing has lasted. He is now remembered for his essays and books about London and travel, appearing in many editions, and his biography of Charles Lamb. He was educated at Friends Public School in Saffron Walden. He worked first in a Brighton bookshop and then on a Sussex newspaper. He was Edward Verrall Lucas (1868-1938) was a versatile and popular English writer of nearly 100 books. But that is possible now only by the Batavier, passengers by the better-known Harwich route being landed now and henceforward at the Hook at five A.M. I am sorry for this, because after a rough passage it was very pleasant to glide in the early morning steadily up the Maas and gradually acquire a sense of Dutch quietude and greyness. No longer, however, can this be done, as the Batavier boats reach Rotterdam at night; and one therefore misses the river, with the little villages on its banks, each with a tiny canal-harbour of its own; the groups of trees in the early mist; the gulls and herons; and the increasing traffic as one drew nearer Schiedam and at last reached that forest of masts which is known as Rotterdam.Taal: Engels; Afmetingen: 10x229x152 mm; Gewicht: 249,00 gram; Verschijningsdatum: mei 2014; ISBN10: 1499649444; ISBN13: 9781499649444; , Engelstalig | Paperback | 2014, Literaire romans, Romans algemeen, Createspace<
