Fair trade is widely regarded as a universal good. This fascinating anthropological study takes a closer look at a coffee-farming community in Costa Rica and explores the contradictions and conflicts behind the fair trade movement.Western demands for organic fair trade produce can be met only by more affluent individuals with larger landholdings.
