Rinehart & Winston, New York, 1981. First Edition. Hardcover. Good Condition/Good. XII, 276pp., introduction by authors, glossary, list of illustrations. Illustrated endpapers, showing a line of 16th century soldiers against a grey background. The text is illustrated with numerous colour and black and white illustrations, sketches and line drawings, taken from many artists throughout the centuries. Black coloured boards with embossed illustration (same as for endpapers) on the lower one-third of the front panel board, with white titles on the spine. Slight scuffing to the corners of the book and shelf wear to the bottom book edges. Very slight bumping to the head and to the heel of the spine. The spine is somewhat 'slack', though internal pages are tight. Illustrated dustwrapper, by Otto Dix, 'Flanders', with grey background and white writing on the front panel and spine. Sunning to the spine and there is chipping and creasing to the dustwrapper corners. There is a semicircular tear running through the top of the spine and in to the rear back panel by a few millimetres. The top and bottom dustwrapper edges are slightly creased and crinkled. "From the beginning of recorded history, man ha is s engaged in endless warfare-so much so that it might seem that war is the prevailing condition of mankind, merely interrupted from time to time but brief episodes of peace. 'The Nature of War' records this universal phenomena of war in a unique way. Instead of using traditional, chronological approach to the history of war, this book examines war from a cyclical point of view." -- from the front fold over panel blurb.
