The Proteus Operation - Paperback

1986, ISBN: 9780553256987

ID: 895657403

USA: Bantam Books, 1969. Paperback. Very Good. Introduction This is the fifth book that I have written and it is my fourth book dealing with those strange' and unexplainable occurrences which are categorized as phenomena. To list them in this fashion serves merely to emphasize the limitations of human knowledge, for in all probability as our understanding of the forces about us improves, we shall :find that the things we now regard as phenomena conform to natural laws of which we presently have little or no knowledge. Writing these books has been an enjoyable experience because I am personally interested in the strange subject matter. The books themselves have met with worldwide acceptance, including a translation into Japanese. They appear as newspaper columns both here and abroad. My syndicated radio show "Strangest Of All" is distributed by Radiozark of Springfield, Missouri, to hundreds of stations. Millions of readers and listeners, will, I think, agree that this is indeed a STRANGE WORLD! January, 1964 Frank Edwards 07-04-16, Bantam Books, 1969, USA: Bantam Books, 1986. Mass Market Paper. PROLOGUE DAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1974, dawned sullenly over the Viria coast, with raindrops spitting from a wet, overcast sky, d ill-tempered squalls scuffing white the wavetops of a py, gunmetal sea. Looking like a flecked carpet unrolled the surface, a straight, foamy wake extended out of the em mists to mark the course of the nuclear-driven attack arine USS Narwhal, now within sight of its home base at 1k and being escorted over the last few miles by a flock of : wheeling seagulls, filling the air with their raucous lament. From the sinister black of the submarine's hull to the off-whites of the seagulls and the spray, the world was a position of soggy grays. The grayness seemed fitting, Commander Gerald en thought as he stood with the first navigation officer ignalman, looking out from the bridge atop the Nartwenty-foot-high "sail." Color came with babies and unny mornings and springtimes: new things beginning. corpses were pale; the sick, "ashen-faced"; the ailing, "gray exhaustion." Along with strength and life, color drained things that were nearing their end.
