A 'clowder' is the correct term for a group or assembly of cats - as a 'gaggle' is for geese, a 'pride' for lions, a 'hug' for bears and a 'kindle' for kittens. This unusual word distinguishes Bryan Holme's unusual and enchanting album from the very long list of cat books that have preceded it. here are cats with very definite personalities, drawn, painted, sculpted or sewn by international artists of equally strong personality - and some in real life, others on postcards - doing everything from sitting pretty to taking part in a circus act.
