We are offering fine early printed material, including a 1511 printed book of hours by Theilman Kerver and Athanasius Kircher’s Latium, his topographical description of Rome. Our Travel section features a fine set of Cook's Voyages, John Harris' Travels', Mearas' Voyages, a Münster map of the Americas, Purchas his Pilgrimes..., and Vancouver's Voyage of Discovery, to name a few. Natural History and Art and Illustration follow, with an octavo edition of Redoute's Les Roses; a Bemelmans' drawing of Pepito the Bad Hat; a fine selection of Dr. Seuss material, including a rare example of his "unorthodox taxidermy"; and a ledger maintained by Diego Rivera's agent recording sales of the artist's work in Mexico City from the 1930s to the late 1950s. The high point of our literature section is a first edition of the King James Bible, the authorized or "he" version of 1611, but we also offer titles by Clemens, Dickens, Faulkner, Hemingway and Steinbeck; a first edition of John Donne's Poems; and Jim Morrison's copy of Moby Dick, found on his bookshelf in the Paris apartment he maintained with Pamela Courson. Our Americana section features rare early newspaper printings of the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and the Constitution; a signed manuscript receipt of Texas hero Jim Bowie; two interesting early California journals, one by a woman; South Carolina's first secession broadside and Louisiana's state constitution; a Richard Henry Lee letter; an early 20th century photography archive of New Yorkers; and a James Wolfe letter written 8 days before his death at the Battle of Quebec. The sale closes with World History and Russian Art and Literature, including an extra-illustrated Life of Napoleon with a portrait miniature and fine examples of 20th century constructivist art and illustration."
