James: Recipient of many awards, James created the Adam Dalgliesh detective series of 14 books. During her career, she wrote 8 other books and contributed many other omnibus and collection editions. This is the ninth Adam Dalgliesh novel.Dorothy Gilman: An author of 14 spy novels featuring Mrs Pollifax, an unlikely heroine who turned to working as a spy in her 60s. Gilman also penned 20 other stand-alone novels, usually with female heroines. Gilman died in 2012. This is the eleventh Mrs. Pollifax adventure.Robert Barnard: British writer of 48 novels and collections, plus 5 nonfiction works and editor of three anthologies. Had a number of short detective series, the most significant were the Perry Trethowan series (5 novels) and the Charlie Peace series (11 novels). Barnard died in 2013.
