The book is slightly soiled along lower edge of front cover, owner's dedication on the pre-title page: about VERY GOOD. Illustrator: Kate Greenaway. 400 g.; VI, 60 pages. Illustrated title page, showing a young girl holding a doll sitting in a chair -- illustrated by Kate Greenaway. In fact the entire text is illustrated with Kate Greenaway's illustrations which are a wonderful adjunct to the book. Green coloured boards with gilt titles to the back strip. Rubbing and scuffing to the edges of the illustrated dustwrapper, again by Kate Greenaway with red and black titles to the front panel and white to the back strip. The only other damage there is a small rubber stamp of a lamb on the rear of free end page. This is the facsimile from the original edition which was printed in 1885. The story of Polly who at nine years old had a wonderful internal imaginary life which then went to create characters that she foisted on her family.
