Assisted Living - Paperback

2007, ISBN: 9781883523848

Hardcover, ID: 484758946

Kingswood, Surrey: The World's Work (1913) Ltd.. Very Good with no dust jacket; Missing DJ, some staining to boards, . corners lightly bumped and rubbed, some foxing. ; Black cloth boards with . faded silver gilt lettering to spine. War Economy Standard edition with . usual poor paper quality. No names inside.. 1944. Hardcover. Sixth Printing; 120 pages; A British army soldier dies a hero's death, holding up the roof of a shelter to save a bunch of kids. All his mates have an amazing story to tell about him, an ordinary man seen through many different eyes. Bit of a shame really when he walks back into barracks two days later. ., The World's Work (1913) Ltd., 1944, NY: Ace Books, 1976. Ace #24909, $.95 cover price, GILA BEND is 104 pages, DAKINS STATION is 110 pages. No date for this edition; 1976 sounds about right. GILA BEND: "Sheriff Ferrine loosened the revolver in his holster as he waited nervously at the railroad depot. In his pocket was a telegram from a lawman friend over in Farley. Holt Wallace, gunman, was coming in on that train, the wire said. So when the train stopped, Ferrine slowly walked over to the solitary passenger who'd gotten off. It was then that he made the biggest mistake of his life." DAKINS STATION: "There wasn't much to the station: just a couple of sorry-looking, run-down buildings a couple of hours' ride from nowhere. But when Brady Willet was offered ten dollars to deliver a message there, he was hard enough up to accept the offer. One thing, though: He made sure his gun was ready - because the message he was to deliver was loaded with dynamite." Very nice copy: spine square/two VERY faint creases/minor bumping at head, covers have one very faint reading crease parallel to spine else covers have minor creasing, one VERY faint date stamp on upper edge of page block/1st page has one small doodle/pages faintly toned. Otherwise the book is in excellent condition with NO markings throughout. NOT an ex-library, NOT a book club, NOT a remainder. Very Good+.. Later Editions. Mass Market Paperback. Very Good+., NY: Ace Books, 1976, Midway, FL: Spinsters Ink, 2007 This book is new. Some shelfwear. Violet March, an eighty-two year old resident of Casa de los Sueños, finally has the opportunity to put years of mystery reading to practical use. One by one her comrades, the Bingos, are dying. Is this natural attrition, or is there a plot afoot? At night, walking unsteadily behind her trusty purple walker, she explores the corridors, while behind doors left ajar the uneasy residents of assisted living do Kegal exercises, compose operas, climb mountains, re-live trips to Cozumel, and ask intriguing questions about the nature of aging and of death., Spinsters Ink, 2007
