Edward, Esq., was son and heir of Nicholas. (See Herald''s Visitation, published by Harl. Society, 1869). The pedigree reaches back to A. D. 1277. John Purefoy of Shalston, the testator in the above abstract, was the one mentioned on page 19 of my History of the Dudleys. Nicholls''s History of Leicestershire says he married, at St. Dunstan''s in London, Anne, daughter of Thomas Windsor, Esq, of Bentley, son of Sir Andrews Windsor, K. C. B.. brother of Edmund Dudley,s lirst wife. t!iat is, Edmund, father of John Duke of Northumberland. She was his second wife. The tirst wife of the testator. John Purefoy, was Elizabeth Brome, dan. of Sir John Brome of Halton. Co. Oxon. Kt. He does not mention any children and probably had no descendants. Visitation ol Lei'' sans he ilied s.p. The Herald''s Visitation and Nicholl''s Leicestershire give the names of his eight brothers and rive sisters, making 14 children of Edward Purefoy, Esq., and his wife Anne Fettiplace (dan. of Kichard Fettiplace, of Bassils-leigh.
