The book must have been composed first by Erasmus in 1497, and subsequently revised by him at this time and perhaps later. The incident of More s arrival in Paris on his way to Germany probably indicates an actual occurrence; and va evidently added after Erasmus first visit to England. The CoUoquiorum Formulae went through numerous editions (see BEr1) in which considerable variations occur; passages being frequently inserted and removed (cf.p. 341), perhaps not always with Erasmus authority. Besides those mentioned in Ep. 56 introd., then is one which Erasmus revised at Hasl for dedication to the young Erasmius Froben (Basle, Froben, March 153a).
