Excerpt: ...last of the East Anglian kings, was crowned, as appears by an ancient manuscript, quoted in the description of Bury, and being massacred by the Danes under Henger and Hubba, was also here interred in the year 903. On the body of St. Edmund being deposited at this place its name was changed to Eadmonstow, or St. Edmund's Bury, and several secular priests settling here built a new church to tin:, honour of the royal martyr; st first there were but seven or eight in number, but they increased in a few years to nineteen; namely, fourteen priests and five deacons all having their several prebends, and became a perfect college about the year 925, when king Ethelstan is said to have been their founder.
