Mosaics in a Weekend : Inspirational Ideas and Practical Projects - signed or inscribed book

2008, ISBN: 9781853689277

Hardcover, First edition, ID: 228525721

New York: St. Martin's Press, 2008. SIGNED by the AUTHOR on the half-title page. Fine condition in Fine dust jacket. NO chips. NO tears. NO creases. NOT price-clipped ($23.95). A bright, shiny, clean, square, tight copy. Sharp corners. NO owner's name or bookplate. NO remainder mark. Pages are clean and crisp. NO underlining. NO highlighting. NO margin notes. First American printing with "First U.S Edition" so stated and complete number row (10 987654321) on the copyright page. Bound in the original black boards, lettered in bright yellow on the spine. From the Dust Jacket: "It takes about sixty-three days to make a litter of puppies, but sixty-three years later the people who loved those puppies remember the dogs they became. When a puppy that fit into a baseball cap entered bestselling author and shepherd Marsha Boulton's life she had no idea he was really a rambunctious kid in a dog suit. Wally (named after the poet Wallace Stevens), a loopy-nosed bull terrier whose face looked like a bicycle seat with eyes, became more of an experience than a dog from the moment he arrived at Lambs' Quarters Farm. He proved to be a valuable hand on the farm and an even more valuable companion. The spoiled, personality-loaded, soccer-playing pup quickly developed a penchant for high-thread-count linens, organic beef, and gourmet cooking. Life was good. Then all hell broke loose. An intense legal battle engulfed Marsha's partner, Stephen, and plunged the couple into a punishing, decade-long struggle. During that time Marsha was also diagnosed with cancer. With his indomitable spirit and wild enthusiasms, Wally's unrelenting appetite for life and carpe diem attitude renewed the couple's ability to step outside themselves and gave them the strength and perspective they needed to persevere. Whether playing class clown at puppy school or looking up the skirts of judges at dog shows, Wally the Wonder Dog ensured that serious laughter was a daily routine. WALLY'S WORLD is a raucous memoir, a roller-coaster ride with an irrepressible partner in paws who is impossible to forget.". Signed by the Author. First Printing of the First US Edition. Hard Cover. Fine condition/Fine dust jacket. 8vo. (xi), 272pp., St. Martin's Press, 2008, St. Martin's 99 First Edition. Signed by Author. SIGNED in person, small creases dj and spine ends, otherwise a very good book and near fine dustjacket in Brodart. Charlie Greene, literary agent, knew better than to go to Las Vegas. Needing a break from overwork at home and the office, a vacation seems like a great idea until she witnesses a murder on the Las Vegas Strip. Just when she decides to not get any more involved, the only cop who hears her eyewitness account is "accidentally" killed. Her stay becomes even more complicated---and dangerous, complete with crooked casino owners, a psychic gambler, an annoying film director, and various colorful characters who inhabit Area 51. Entertaining!. Signed by Author. 1st Edition. Hardcover., St. Martin's 99, London: New Holland Publishers (UK). 1997. Hardcover. Brand Newin Fine DJ; Marfree fresh recent prtg, acidfree coated stock full color F/Fine 1stEd gift qual; not written-in, underlined, clearance or discard. Usually mails within 12 hours. ; 8.5 x 11 inches; 80 pages; Synopsis: This is a collection of projects presenting ideas for both indoor and outdoor mosaics. Aimed at both experienced mosaic artists and beginners, it features mosaics created using a variety of glass and ceramic tiles, beads, shells, and other found objects. There are 18 step-by-step projects of various sizes, including picture and mirror framing, paving slabs, wall plaques and decorated plant pots. From the AuthorThe best selling book of step by step mosaic projectsSurprisingly, the word 'mosaic' has no literal translation. Some scholars have suggested that it means 'crazy', which even if not absolutely accurate, seems to be entirely appropriate at times. Mosaic is certainly enjoying something of a renaissance at the moment. I have been running three-day mosaic courses for five years now and their popularity has grown as the public have slowly realised that they, too, can make beautiful mosaics for themselves. It never fails to amaze me that what appears at first glance to be such an inflexible material, can produce results that are so stylistically different and individual. The Italian master mosaicists had to train for many years before being allowed to tackle big public works. Understandably, they were (and still are) very secretive about their techniques. What they would think of a three-day mosaic course (or this book, which for some projects works on the principle that a weekend can be a 'long weekend' - three days) is not worth repeating , but the fact remains that wonderful things can be, and are achieved in this short space of time. So let's let the mosaics speak for themselves. About The Projects In this Book. \t The projects in this book have been chosen to show the wide range of styles, materials and techniques available to the modern mosaicist. Choose the projects that suit your temperament - it is unlikely that someone who feels drawn to the 'Gaudiesque' style of using great big chunks of broken pottery is also going to enjoy the painstaking work involved in nibbling fine detail for an intricate design. I strongly recommend that you read the chosen project through carefully before you start. There's nothing more maddening than to have to stop work because you have forgotten a vital piece of equipment. You will also notice that there are times when you will need to wait, say, for glue to dry. It is important to realise this before you begin a project, so that you don't get disappointed when you find you have to wait, for example, a whole week for cement to set. I have tried to choose projects that range from the simple, that can be achieved in a morning (For example a Trivet, and a Shell Number Plate, ) to the more advanced, that may take 3 days to complete (For example a Geometric Roman Paving Slab) . There are plenty of mosaics for internal and external settings. Mosaic has the added advantage of being able to be wiped clean, so you can hang it in your kitchen or bathroom if you wish. Other mosaics have been chosen simply because they make perfect gifts. ., New Holland Publishers (UK), 1997
