Hardback. New. By and large, corporations of the 21st century have come to realise that their obligations to societies in terms of corporate social responsibility are fourfold: economic, ethical, altruistic and strategic. Meeting these four responsibilities is crucial to their survival in their various markets and industries; it also requires them to rewrite their previously less socially responsible business models in order to do so. All indications continue to suggest that it is those organisations that are perceived to be socially responsible by stakeholders in modern markets that survive and prosper. Corporations have equally realised that by being innovative in all things - including their CSR activities and initiatives - they will add value to the so-called bottom line, to the positive contributions they make to society and to how they are perceived by their key stakeholders. However, many criticisms have been made of CSR in its current form, often related to the lack of value that it generates within the enterprise and the fact that it offers only a partial and short-term response to the full challenges of sustainable development. The time has come to shift the CSR focus away from risk management towards a more progressive and entrepreneurial approach that seeks to create value and identify sustainable opportunities for strategic innovation. This book aims to explore, inspire and support creative, innovative and strategic CSR. Innovation in this book means new products, services and technologies and, in addition, new organisational and institutional systems, structures and new business models that empower the organisation to advance strategically in an ever more competitive business world. Both research and practice show that CSR has mainly been approached in terms of value protection and risk management, where the main objective has been to protect companies' existing assets or avoid scandals. Therefore, in many cases where CSR remains at the forefront of business activity, it does not lead to fundamental changes and is not yet integrated as a strategic component where it could create value, generate new ideas and open new opportunities. How do corporate entities shift their attention from risk management to value creation? This is the key question that this book attempts to answer, both theoretically and empirically as well as through real case studies and experiences. With contributions from a creme de la creme of scholars from 12 countries, Innovative CSR gathers together a cornucopia of innovative practices that will be essential reading for academics and practitioners alike., American Mathematical Society, 2003-12. This volume presents the proceedings of a workshop on Inverse Problems and Applications and a special session on Inverse Boundary Problems and Applications.Inverse problems arise in practical situations, such as medical imaging, exploration geophysics, and non-destructive evaluation where measurements made in the exterior of a body are used to deduce properties of the hidden interior. A large class of inverse problems arise from a physical situation modeled by partial differential equations. The inverse problem is to determine some coefficients of the equation given some information about solutions. Analysis of such problems is a fertile area for interaction between pure and applied mathematics. This interplay is well represented in this volume where several theoretical and applied aspects of inverse problems are considered. The book includes articles on a broad range of inverse problems including the inverse conductivity problem, inverse problems for Maxwell's equations, time reversal mirrors, ultrasound using elastic pressure waves, inverse problems arising in the environment, inverse scattering for the three-body problem, and optical tomography. Also included are several articles on unique continuation and on the study of propagation of singularities for hyperbolic equations in anisotropic media. This volume is suitable for graduate students and research mathematicians interested in inverse problems and applications., American Mathematical Society, 2003-12

The miracle of integral geometry is that it is often possible to recover a function on a manifold just from the knowledge of its integrals over certain submanifolds. The founding example is the Radon transform, introduced at the beginning of the 20th century. Since then, many other transforms were found, and the general theory was developed. Moreover, many important practical applications were discovered. The best known, but by no means the only one, being to medical tomography. This book is a general introduction to integral geometry, the first from this point of view for almost four decades. The authors, all leading experts in the field, represent one of the most influential schools in integral geometry. The book presents in detail basic examples of integral geometry problems, such as the Radon transform on the plane and in space, the John transform, the Minkowski-Funk transform, integral geometry on the hyperbolic plane and in the hyperbolic space, the horospherical transform and its relation to representations of $SL(2,\mathbb C)$, integral geometry on quadrics, etc. The study of these examples allows the authors to explain important general topics of integral geometry, such as the Cavalieri conditions, local and nonlocal inversion formulas, and overdetermined problems in integral geometry. Many of the results in the book were obtained by the authors in the course of their career-long work in integral geometry. This book is suitable for graduate students and researchers working in integral geometry and its applications., American Mathematical Society, 2003-10, Cambridge University Press, 2012.
