In the thirty-four years that she served as Henry Street's director. During the Depression vital studies in unemployment were undertaken, and Miss Hall played a direct role in bringing about the Social Security Act of 1935. It was at Henry Street that the Lower F.astside Neighborhoods Association (LENA) was formed, and that Mobilization for Youth began. Throughout the thirties, the war years, the postwar years, and into the tumultuous late sixties, Helen Hall fought unceasingly for public funds and political recognition of community problems. She knew and worked closely with La Guardia, Senator Robert F. Wagner, and his son, Mayor Robert F. Wagner, the Roosevelt Administration and those administrations that followed in confronting the demands of a changing social scene.
